by FBR ViewPoints

Franchise: FASTSIGNS International

Location: Culver City, CA

# of Years Franchising: 6 months

Previous Occupation: VP Account Director - Advertising

Top Reason you chose your Franchise: We liked the sign industry and where it is heading technologically, and FASTSIGNS is the top dog in the category.

Best part of being your own boss? I can take off when I want to go play golf.

Worst part of being your own boss? I am too busy to go play golf.

Craziest/most interesting thing that has happened to you as a franchise owner? There is a cab company somewhere in S. Africa with graphics on all their cars that we produced.

Advice for prospective franchise buyers? Do your homework. Really investigate not only the franchise you are looking to buy into but the industry as a whole. Make sure this is what you will love getting up every morning to go do. This is more than a job – you have the unique opportunity to own and build something that impacts the lives of everyone who works for you or who you do work for, as well as the community where your business is located.

What was the total length of time from when you started researching franchises to when you purchased? 3 months solid. I left my job in August ’06 and signed our franchise agreement in late November 3 months later. During that time, I researched and visited a number of sign companies, talked with existing owners, dug into the industries past and where it was heading into the future.
