The Honest-1 Auto Care franchise opportunity is a general service shop, offering primarily oil changes, brake checks, and other basic services — but two things distinguish the garage from competitors. The tastefully appointed lobby is comfortable and has a fully-stocked play area for children, a coffee maker with French vanilla capuccino and free wi-fi. Two weeks ago, Tom Dombrock and Fred Haynes debuted their latest venture with an Honest-1 Auto Care franchise — an eco-friendly auto repair shop that caters specifically to women.

FBR Names Top Low Cost Franchise Opportunities for 2011

Franchise Business Review Names Top Low Cost Franchise Opportunities for 2011
Heaven’s Best Tops List of Low-Investment Franchises

PORTSMOUTH, NH
— As the economy show signs of recovery, low cost franchises offer low-risk, start-up opportunities to budding business owners, according to a report released today by Franchise Business Review.

The 2011 Guide to Today’s Top Low Cost Franchises looks at business opportunities that require an average overall investment of less than $100,000 to get started. The companies on the list are scattered across many industries, with home maintenance services, senior care/home health, and child services representing the majority of companies. The top two investment opportunities—Heaven’s Best, a carpet and upholstery cleaning business, and Home Instead Senior Care—remain the same as 2010, but five of the remaining companies are new to the top 10.

To compile the report, researchers at Franchise Business Review looked at the initial investment rate, revenue potential, growth, and franchisee satisfaction of hundreds of low-cost franchises.

“Investing in a business is never without risk,” said Franchise Business Review president and CEO Eric Stites. “But if you’re serious about owning your own business, this list is a great place to start. Many of these companies offer an opportunity to build a sizable business, with relatively low upfront costs—yielding a good return on your investment for successful entrepreneurs.”

Franchise Business Review’s annual low-cost guide is especially timely this year, as entrepreneurs see hope in the slowly improving economy. Without the overhead of real estate, pricey retail locations or large product inventories, this niche group of franchises has performed well during the economic downturn and is positioned for strong growth as the economy continues to recover.

Prospective franchisees can open a business from the companies on the list for an average investment as low as $5,147. Because most of the companies can be run out of a home office with little overhead costs, the return on investment for this type of business is significantly higher than other franchise opportunities.
“While the lending landscape hasn’t greatly improved, lower cost opportunities like the ones in this report offer owners the ability to finance their investments through personal savings, home equity or even borrowing from retirement savings,” Stites said.

Franchise Business Review, a market research company, looks at franchise opportunities from the perspective of a franchisee candidate using both detailed company and industry research applied consistently across all franchises. While the success of any franchise investment is highly dependent on the actions and performance of the individual franchise operator, Franchise Business Review's research focuses on key metrics collected from franchise disclosure documents (FDD), management interviews, industry and competitor information, and Franchise Business Review’s own proprietary analysis.

Franchise Business Review will discuss the findings of the report, as well as the company’s unique methodology used to determine a franchise’s investment value in a special free webinar on Friday, February 4, 2011. Click here to register for this free webinar.
