Franchisees More Optimistic

by Greg Nathan

How to help franchisees feel more optimistic about the future.

1. Create a positive environment around you. Be optimistic -it's contagious.
2. Share success stories and case studies on what has worked within the system - use stories franchisees can relate to.
3. Help franchisees set realistic short term goals so they can experience success.
4. Give positive recognition and recognize small, positive steps that signal progress. For instance saying "you're doing a great job with ..."
5. Show positive statistics for the company that demonstrate encouraging results.
6. Develop camaraderie among franchisees - facilitate get togethers and positive communication between them.
7. Provide monthly updates - company statistics, projects, initiatives, goals - with congratulations and recognition to specific people.
8. Create a plan that franchisees can relate to and buy into. They need to feel they have a direction for the future.
9. Benchmark the most successful franchisees and help other franchisees implement the techniques used to reach those benchmarks.
10. Connect franchisees with others who are or have been in their situation - carefully select who you connect them with.
11. Select franchisee of the month - meet with them to gain their best practices and circulate these to all franchisees.
12. Recognize franchisees for attitude and results in newsletters - select people who may not be the obvious ones. Also reward improvement and long-serving staff.
13. Have your President deliver monthly webinars on the state of the business.
14. Help develop their confidence at a personal level. Confidence on the inside builds results on the outside.
15. Manage negative events or news - don't suppress it - just frame it in a positive way.
16. Treat problems as opportunities to improve.
17. Reward everyone in a team - not just individuals. Let them all enjoy and bask in a sense of achievement.
18.Show them their problem is your concern.
