Franchises Offering Child Services Prospering

by The Franchise Hound

A report released today by Franchise Business Review (a national franchise market research firm) said that franchises with a focus on child services are thriving even in a challenging economy. And it’s no wonder – no matter the financial constraints placed on a family, priority generally lies in offering the kids the best they can afford.

Franchises in child services can be focused on a variety of services, including sports, afterschool programs, child care, retail stores, tutoring, event hosting and photography. Franchise Business Review researched more than 30 franchises in the industry in order to create the report; from mobile dance instruction businesses with a low initial investment of $30,000 to preschools requiring a little over $3.3 million to start.

“The child services industry is never going away, as proved by our recent research,” said Franchise Business Review president and CEO Eric Stites. “Franchisors in this space have performed well over the past few years, despite the economy, and some business models – like youth sports programs – have even flourished.”

Child Services to Continue to Flourish
Businesses in this industry should continue to do well as parents seek additional options to educate and entertain their children. As schools cut arts, sports and other programs, demand increases in the community for these services. In addition, the satisfaction rate for child services franchise owners is about 5% higher than the overall franchise benchmark across all other sectors. It may be because the industry tends to thrive no matter the economic climate, but it surely helps that working with children is a rewarding experience for the franchisees that are passionate about their jobs.

In what may seem surprising, Franchise Business Review found that two franchises – Kiddie Academy and Primrose Schools – both of which have fairly high investment requirements have grown during the recession. Other child services businesses with lower initial investments have not fared as well, though most of the struggles can be attributed to local, regional and national economic downturns.
