ASK FBR | January 25, 2008

Wow... that's a tough one! It's similar to buying a car or a house - there is a huge range in price between various franchise opportunities. What's important to understand are three key pieces of information related to cost: 1.) initial capital required, 2.) total initial investment, and 3.) on-going or recurring costs. i9 Sports franchise opportunity investment

by Eric Stites

Q: I have just returned from an i9 Sports Discovery Day. The management team is young, innovative and enthusiastic. I'm looking for a more objective view of the opportunity now that I've got all the paperwork, and they need my decision. I love sports, enjoy kids and the idea of building a community based service is appealing to me. What can you tell me about the company from an "outside voice."

Thanks, Bo

Dear Bo - Thanks for your question. We have surveyed i9 Sports franchisees twice in the last few years and they have rated the company and the opportunity extremely high. Their overall franchisee satisfaction was some of the highest we've seen. That said, we have not surveyed them since Jan 2008 and a lot has obviously changed since then with the economy. Families have much less disposable income today then they did a year ago. I'm guessing your mareket area has survived the downturn quite well and you may not feel any direct impact from the economy.

I personally talk to hundreds of franchisees every year and many of them say the same thing: business is OK but it took a lot longer than expected to ramp up revenues and it's a lot of hard work! It sounds like you are passionate about sports, kids and community - which is a great start! If you are willing to put in a lot of time over the next two to three years, and follow the i9 Sports system, you will more than likely be very successful.

If you haven't already done so, call or visit some of i9's more senior franchisees and see how they are doing. Are they getting the on-going support and training they need? Do the marketing programs work? Are they meeting their financial expectations? Would do they do it again? Would they recommend i9 Sports to a friend?

If they answer yes, then go for it! Hope this helps and please feel free to contact me directly with any more questions you have.

Happy Franchising!!
