Veterans and Franchise Report 2011Although many organizations have set out to look at the “best” franchise opportunities for veterans, until now, none of these listings included data on actual veteran franchisee satisfaction and performance—perhaps the most telling data of all. Franchise Business Review’s Veterans and Franchising 2011 is the first report to look at which franchise opportunities are most veteran-friendly based on franchisee satisfaction.

Franchisee Satisfaction Report

For anyone researching a franchise, Franchise Business Review knows how important it is to get feedback from current franchisees. To expedite this process, we conducted an independent survey of JumpBunch franchisees on their satisfaction.

All active franchisees were invited to participate in the survey. 40 franchise owners elected to participate (approximately 75%). The survey was completed on January 2012.

JumpBunch offers all the advantages of a great business opportunity:

  • Home-based (no storefront or “gym” facility required)
  • No teaching or sports experience required
  • Low start-up and low overhead costs
  • Rapid growth market
  • Proven business model
  • Strong training and ongoing support
  • Protected geographic territories

Superior Training and Support – A lot of franchises promise, but few really deliver in this area. JumpBunch founder Tom Bunchman is committed to a rigorous training process to give each franchisee the best springboard for success.

A robust online “Extranet” allows franchisees to share questions, ideas and solutions anytime, and an annual JumpBunch conference gives each owner a chance to strategize directly with JumpBunch staff and other franchisees who share a similar passion and vision for their business JumpBunch offers structured sports and fitness programs for children from age 15 months to 12 years.

The classes are typically 30 minutes long, once a week, with over 70 activity plans. Not a gym or facility, JumpBunch classes are offered as part of a child's day at school, daycare, and after-school programs, plus YMCA's and Parks and Rec Departments. We help build healthy bodies, self-esteem and a life-long love for sports and fitness! JumpBunch delivers the advantages you look for in a superior franchise opportunity.

You want the independence to grow your own business but also want to invest in a proven business model - and in a market with strong growth potential. You also need to know that you can count on all the training and ongoing support you'll need to succeed. You manage JumpBunch from home, but you offer classes at existing facilities (preschool, daycare, public and private elementary schools, etc).

This means you are simply offering an additional service to someone else's established customer base. JumpBunch is attractive to them because you offer a unique, complementary, turn-key program. For you, overhead is low because you use their facility, and your "customers" are already in place.

I researched a number of different franchise opportunities. JumpBunch has delivered exactly what I was looking for: we were up and running quickly and easily, the cost was very reasonable, and I’m doing something I really enjoy.
Greg Burg, San Jose, CA

I am thrilled with my decision to start a JumpBunch franchise. With each class I realize how rewarding it is to teach children about sports and fitness. The kids love the classes, and I actually have fun working. The support from the corporate office is great, and "quality" shows within every aspect of the business. Commonly asked questions and answers about this franchise opportunity.

What kind of experience do I need?
While experience teaching or running your own business can be helpful, they are not required. The most important qualities for success are a sincere interest in teaching children combined with the motivation and commitment to grow a successful business.

Is JumpBunch a full or part-time career?
To own a JumpBunch franchise, you must be prepared to make this a full-time (roughly 40 hours a week) endeavor. The nature of JumpBunch classes allows flexibility from a normal 9-5 career, but to be successful, it really needs to be a full-time business pursuit.

Do you need a physical location or storefront to operate a JumpBunch franchise?
No lease! JumpBunch franchisees make relationships with existing daycares, preschools, private schools and other host locations to offer classes at THEIR location, to their existing “customer” base. This is one reason JumpBunch is such a low-cost and low-overhead business model.

Can you please provide a breakdown of the $35K - $77K initial investment? This figure is for a franchise fee of $33,000 plus miscellaneous expenses, such as first year's insurance, travel to Maryland for training, starter equipment, etc. That is for a territory of 250,000, which is thoroughly examined in advance for its demographic viability.

Many schools, daycares, YMCA/YWCA, etc already offer programs like these. How do you get them to do business with JumpBunch? We differentiate ourselves by offering a sports and fitness class, emphasis on sports. Parents love getting their kids a head start in sports, and invest a lot for their kids extra-curricular sports. Certainly not every venue gets started with JumpBunch, but enough do, and usually we get great numbers of sign-ups.

Who pays your franchisees… the parents of the kids or the school/business? Roughly 70% of our volume is paid for directly by the parents. Preschools and daycares are our largest marketplace. JumpBunch is offered as an enrichment program in these venues; parents see the value and sign up their child. The other roughly 30% comes from what we call "contract schools", where the school budgets for us and pays us directly. Please contact me anytime with additional questions. Thanks.

Love and Marketing

Joey St. John of JumpBunch shares this month how finding love and marketing a company are similar in that you can't just jump in and expect it to work the first time. You have to make a connection and build trust to form a lasting relationship.

Quantity vs. Quality

Have you ever been asked at checkout if you have a rewards card, and if you don’t would you like one? It’s virtually impossible to escape that question these days if you purchase anything from anywhere. Joey St. John of JumpBunch is no stranger to this practice being a veteran of the retail industry, and he's seen the results that can come from that simple procedure. What he really wants to discuss this month is the question of quantity versus quality.

Practice Makes Permanent

Read this quote slowly: “The other seven swimmers in the pool do not affect me at all unless I let them.” Natalie then went on to say, “If I focus on anything other than my race, I find it difficult to swim in a straight line.” This months blog from Joey St. John of JumpBunch will explain how this quote relates to franchising.

Numbers Don't Lie

Numbers don’t lie. Your knowledge of your market and business will get you close. The hard work you go out and do will nudge you even closer. However, it is your attitude about everything that actually adds up to 100%. Joey St. John with JumpBunch shares an interesting fact founded by some math teachers in this month's blog about numbers.

If it's not hard you must not be doing it right

Joey St. John with JumpBunch shares this month how critical it is to have the right perspective and expectations towards buying a franchise. Many franchise systems are great choices for those who want to benefit from a trails already blazed. The reality though is that no hard work is eliminated by doing this. In fact, if you don’t find yourself actually working much harder than in a regular job, you probably are doing something wrong. If your expectations are accurate and paired with a good system, that work will pay off in rewards and flexibility that go well beyond those of the traditional daily grind.

How to Cook a Frog

You're probably wondering why this is entitled "How to Cook a Frog" when that really doesn't have much to do with franchising. Joey St. John of JumpBunch doesn't know how it relates either, but in his guest blog this month he ties the two together.

Hiring is Not a Process; It's an Attitude

According to Webster's dictionary, a process is a systematic series of actions directed to some end; whereas an attitude is the way a person views something or tends to behave towards it, often in an evaluative way. To the Vice President of Operations at JumpBunch, Joey St. John, hiring individuals should be perceived as an attitude and not a process one goes through to fill a need.
